When I heard this movie was coming out and watched the teaser with Brad Pitt and that odd accent, I knew immediately I wanted to see this movie. Sadly, the movie wasn't coming out until August 21, 2009, the very end of summer when generally the last stretch of summer consists of weak films.
LUCKILY this film does not fall into the category of weak summer movies at the end. This is not only a very very good film, but an extremely entertaining film that you don't usually get to see during summer. Summer generally consists of the popcorn blockbusters and you expect to be entertained, but not really see filmmaking at some of its finest. Quentin Tarrantino creates a revenge fantasy of Jewish soldiers coming together and killing Nazis. Taking their scalps as a token of their kill and going after Hitler.
Obviously with the film being made by Tarrantino, it's extremely violent, yet extremely humorous at times. The movie is setup like Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 as the film's storyline is divided into several chapters. And, like Kill Bill, it delivers both violence and humor.
The movie runs a bit over 2 and a half hours, but it is WELL WORTH IT. I highly recommend seeing this movie ASAP. It's such a weird feeling sitting in the theater and listen and watch the audience cheer as people are being brutally killed in a movie...mainly because it's Nazi's, but it's still an interesting experience. Go see it.
So my review of the movie: 4.5 out of 5.
Would I recommend seeing it?: Why haven't you seen it already? I would have been there for the midnight showing, but I had to be up at 6am that day...
Would I see this movie again in theaters?: I think I'm going again sometime this week or weekend. So to answer that question, YES.
Would I buy this movie on blu-ray?: Ignoring the fact that the blu-rays that Tarrantino has released have been terrific and look great, I have no doubt this will look and sound good. But the movie is THAT GOOD that it is a MUST for the Blu-ray collection, especially mine.
Would I buy this movie on DVD?: If I have it on blu-ray...no...but my mother will most likely get it on DVD since I have not convinced her to get the blu-rays yet...sad I know.
Would I rent it?: If I were you and missed it in theaters, YES, ASAP.
Would I watch it on TV?: Only premium channels to get that full violence the film is supposed to portray. Regular cable would be pointless to watch this movie on. Check it out before you say to yourself, "Hey, the movie is on HBO tonight, let's watch it! I've never seen it!" NEVER should you be at that point, go see it!
Would I buy the movie poster: I actually have considered it and looked around online. The movie is that good that a poster would be fitting. The posters look great as well, it would be an awesome poster for me to hang in my house a part of that collection of mine as well.
